About
I am a creative professional with over 35 years of experience in design and communication, including 18+ years as an Art Director and 18+ years as a Creative Director / Creative Manager / Department Lead. My passion lies in discovering the most effective way to do, say, or show something so it’s instantly clear and meaningful. I’m equally driven by leading creative teams — pushing the work forward while mentoring people to become stronger, more confident creators.
Over the years, my interest in leadership grew into a deeper study of how teams truly function. That journey inspired me to write The Middle Manager’s Leadership Playbook, a practical guide based on real-world experience. The process of writing the book sharpened my understanding of communication, empathy, and accountability — and ultimately made me a more intentional, effective manager. It influenced how I give feedback, how I build trust, and how I create environments where creative people can do their best work.
Outside of design leadership, I’m a lifelong maker. I’m rarely happy unless I have at least five projects in the works — from props and models to custom builds and home inventions. I love 3D printing, constantly experimenting with new materials and techniques, and I’m hoping to expand my fleet of printers soon.
A Marin County native, I moved to San Diego in 1986 to attend SDSU and never looked back. When I’m not designing or making, I’m at a ball game, watching a movie, or searching for the next great Mexican food spot in town.
